The Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir will be making their way to Duluth for a performance of their concert For the Love of Gospel.
For the Love of Gospel is a ninety-minute compilation of the most popular spiritual and gospel music of the past 200 years. From Dem Bones to How I Got Over, to Precious Lord, and O Happy Day, the concert will not only educate and inspire, but will also have the audience clapping their hands and singing along.
Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial, Inc. is the presenting sponsor, and the organization worked to make this performance possible in to order to listen to and heal from gospel music. During the performance, community members will have the opportunity to come together with conversation and reflection to make a personal and collective commitment to focus their energy to actualize racial justice in our community.
Additionally, the CJMM Oral History Project preserves the unique history of African Americans in Duluth, told through the voices and stories of Black elders in Duluth. Boards representing the Project will be on display during the event.
The concert will be held at Sacred Heart Music Center on Saturday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 online in advance and $25 at the door. Children 12 and younger can attend for free. Arrowhead Chorale is a Community Partner and is handling ticket sales for the performance. Tickets are available at arrowheadchorale.com.
Earlier in the day, the Twin Cities Community Gospel choir will visit the Family Freedom center at 2 p.m., and give a concert preview at Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial at 3 p.m.
The Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir has been entertaining music lovers in the Twin Cities and around the country for more than 25 years. Their mission is to move audiences spiritually and to create community across racial, cultural and economic boundaries through their soulful interpretation of the African-American gospel music tradition. The talented group is led by artistic director Ed Newman and consists of singers of various musical experience, ethnic backgrounds and ages to celebrate the power of music.
