Highlighting the mystery and majesty of the season, Arrowhead Chorale is pleased to announce its holiday concert, “Holiday Jubilations and Traditions.” This will be a celebration of the season and will include beautiful music, refreshments and more.
The concert fills the Duluth Depot’s Great Hall on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $6 for college students, and 18 and under attend for free. Tickets include refreshments and are available online at http://arrowheadchorale.com/tickets.php.
Joining the melodic sounds of the Chorale this year is Duluth’s renowned bell choir Strikepoint, under the direction of Bill Alexander. The handbell ensemble will perform “Sing We Now of Christmas” with the Arrowhead Chorale before sharing a set of their own holiday favorites.
A fanfare of trumpets and percussion herald in the joy of the season with the rousing processional, “Personent Hodie.” Settings of traditional carols from our collective English, German and French heritages will be familiar to audiences. Global jubilations liven up the celebration, accompanied by guitar, bass, marimba and percussion including songs from Spain and Haiti, and a composition from the Luther College Music Series, “A King is Born,” with strong Caribbean influences
Guest conductors at the event include Dr. Bret Amundson and Dr. Sarah Ludwig. Amundson is the director of choral activities and of general education at The College of St. Scholastica. Under his direction, the college choir performs several concerts a year and annually tours regionally, nationally and internationally. Amundson has been awarded the college’s Benedictine Professorship in General Education and is also the artistic director for the Lake Superior Youth Chorus and of the Twin Ports Choral Project. Ludwig, assistant director of choral activities and vocal music education at The College of St. Scholastica, serves as assistant chorus master of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra Chorus, associate artistic and prelude program director of the Lake Superior Youth Chorus and sings with the Twin Ports Choral Project.
In addition to experiencing beautiful music, “Holiday Jubilations and Traditions” attendees will delight in baked cookies from multiple cultures, wine, cider and other refreshments at this year’s event. Handmade fiber artwork created by local artists will be on display throughout the Great Hall as well.
